Daniel Dubois vs Tyson Fury could happen if both men win their next fights. The WBO heavyweight champion wants the showdown, but Fabio Wardley stands in his way.
Dubois outlined his plans during an interview with Sky Sports News. He sees Fury as a major future opponent.
“What a fight that would be,” he said.
However, Dubois must first beat Wardley again. Fury also faces a major challenge against Anthony Joshua later this year.
Daniel Dubois vs Tyson Fury hinges on two results
Dubois fights Wardley at The O2 on Saturday 17 October. Meanwhile, Fury meets Joshua at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on 11 December.
Dubois expects Fury to win that contest. Such a result could help create another major British heavyweight attraction.
Nevertheless, neither victory would guarantee a subsequent meeting. Both camps would still need to agree terms for a Dubois–Fury fight.
For now, the champion insists he has his priorities clear.
“I’m not looking past Fabio at all,” Dubois told Sky Sports News.
Wardley has already shown why Dubois cannot afford any distractions. Their first fight gave the champion plenty of difficult moments.
Wardley comes before a potential Fury showdown
Dubois won the WBO title against Wardley in Manchester in May. The pair fought at the Co-op Live Arena.
He stopped Wardley in the 11th round. The result handed Wardley his first professional defeat.
Wardley then activated his rematch clause. He now has an immediate chance to reclaim the belt.
That first meeting gives each fighter something to build on. Wardley can take confidence from his early knockdowns.
Dubois, meanwhile, knows he can recover from trouble and force a stoppage. Frank Warren previously highlighted Wardley’s ability to hurt him.
The champion therefore faces a dangerous return bout before considering his next move.
Fury previously dismissed a Dubois fight
Fury’s earlier comments offer another complication for Dubois’s ambitions.
In May, Fury played down fights with Dubois and Wardley on FurociTV.
“They don’t really do anything for me,” Fury said.
Those comments came months before Dubois’s latest interview.
Daniel Dubois vs Tyson Fury remains an ambition for now. First, Dubois must overcome Wardley, while Fury must beat Joshua.
Two victories could strengthen the case for a meeting. Until then, Dubois’s immediate task remains defending his title in London.
