The official weigh-ins were held today for Saturday night’s HBO Boxing doubleheader, headlined by Gennady Golovkin vs. Marco Antonio Rubio, and also featuring Nonito Donaire vs. Nicholas Walters. Find the official weigh-in results and photos here.
- Gennady Golovkin: 159 lbs
- Marco Antonio Rubio: 161.8 lbs
Rubio came in overweight for the fight, and by a pretty large margin. It’s unclear at this time if he plans on attempting to sweat it off and come back in time to make the weigh-in, or if he’s simply decided to keep it as is. If that’s the case, he won’t have Golovkin’s title at stake, and he’ll also be fined by the commission.
He may also have to make some financial amends to Golovkin’s team in order for the fight to go through. Disappointing for Rubio, although hopefully this doesn’t mean that he’s ill prepared for the challenge.
- Nonito Donaire: 125.6 lbs
- Nicholas Walters: 125.6 lbs
The fights take place this Saturday Oct. 18 at the StubHub Center in Carson,Calif. on HBO World Championship Boxing. Promoted by K2 Promotions, GGG Promotions and Promociones Del Pueblo while Donaire vs. Walters is presented by Top Rank.
