Jaron Ennis’ father and trainer, Bozy Ennis has ruled out an immediate showdown with Vergil Ortiz Jr.
Ennis and Ortiz were close to sealing a much-anticipated clash earlier this year, however talks broke down with the latter embroiled in a lawsuit with his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya.
‘Boots’ went on to stop Xander Zayas in seven rounds to capture the unified WBO and WBA super welterweight world titles last month.
Ortiz’s trainer, Robert Garcia claimed earlier this month the pair were once again close to agreeing a deal.
“It is very true, the fight is very close,” Garcia told Boxing Scene.
“[Golden Boy President] Eric Gomez, Vergil Ortiz Snr, [manager] Rick Mirigian, they all came to me and asked me what I think about the fight.
“I said, ‘Let’s do it, there’s no need to wait [or] get a fight before that.’
“A lot of people think Vergil needs a fight before that.
“No he doesn’t, Vergil fought less than a year ago.”
However, Ennis’ father and trainer, Bozy has rubbished these suggestions and insists they are instead seeking unifications with WBC champion, Sebastian Fundora and IBF titlist, Josh Kelly.
“He’s on the back burner,” he told Fight Hub TV.
“Boots wants to unify all the titles and become undisputed.
“Once we do that [we’ll fight] whoever.
“Either one of them [Fundora or Kelly].
“Whoever volunteers first.
“Whoever raises their hand.”
The Philadelphia man became a two-weight world champion with his victory over Zayas.
The 29-year-old’s promoter, Eddie Hearn revealed a unification with Kelly, who defends his title against Caoimhin Agyarko on July 25 in Saudi Arabia, could take place next.
“Boots will be scheduled around November time,” Hearn told IFLTV.
“He’s for me the most exciting fighter in boxing right now.
“Boots wants all the belts.
“He’s desperate to become undisputed.
“Josh Kelly will fight on that [Anthony Joshua vs Kristian Prenga] card [on July 25].
“When he comes through that fight, there’s a very good chance that Josh Kelly will fight Boots in November in America.”
